Hai,
So it’s the end of the semester, the finish line is in sight, and all you have to do is turn in that one. last. paper. But wait! It’s Friday and that evaluation plan for the project you’ve been putting together all semester isn’t due until Monday (sorry Dr. Seibert-Kuhlman!). This means that you have all weekend to temporarily rid yourself of that end of the semester blues. The following is a short-list recommendation of one school even happening this weekend and a few places to warm your toes this weekend.
First on the docket is the annual Graduate Professional Council holiday party that is taking place at Lola down on Washington Avenue. To kick off the evening, there will be an exhibition of graduate student artwork at the Des Lee gallery, essentially across the street. The opening will take place between 6pm and 9pm and will likely include snacks and boozey treats. The holiday party starts at 9:30, continuing officially until 11:30 – it is “catered” but only the first 300 people will receive a free drink ticket.
Secondly, this should be a fine weekend to spend an evening ice skating at the Steinberg rink in Forest Park. Steinberg is one of the best (in my opinion) places to ice skate around and it is open until midnight on the weekends. Cheesy music blasts from speakers as everyone skates on the oversized rink. A giant bonfire at the south end of the rink keeps people warm. And there are bucket of beer specials to test your balance on the ice (be careful!). It doesn’t matter if you check the place out alone, with friends, or with your family – it’s friendly for everyone and plenty fun. The building is straight out of 1952 and the experience is definitely unique.
Stay warm this weekend, have fun, and remember… you’ll get through this!
