So apparently, Punxsutawney Phil, the weather prognosticating groundhog saw his shadow yesterday February 2nd. They say we have six more weeks of winter, but I am a little confused about that prediction–here’s why.
For one, I don’t know if “Phil” knows what wintry weather is. Clearly this past week in St. Louis felt like Spring. Forest park was filled with avid runners, cyclists, golfers, and the families who decided to spend quality time and have a nice picnic in the park. The weather I am used to in New York, at least during winter season, feels literally like frostbite! Last winter, the snow storm was unbelievable. Anytime the New York City transportation system shuts down, there is definitely a problem.
Having said that, Phil, I question the validity of your prediction. Trust me, I would love for spring and summer to arrive within the six-week time frame you set for us, but I do not like to play the fool. So I will bask in the beautiful weather here in St. Louis and soak up this privilege in the meantime. But Phil, if there is any sign of, snow, sleet, high winds, etc., I am unsure if I will be able to trust the implications of you spotting your shadow ever again.
Signed, A very happy East Coaster loving this St. Louis version of winter!
