As all of you know, doing activities you love is very important in keeping you sane in college. Well the same goes for grad school. You may get busy with school work, work, internship, attending class, and may be too tired to exercise or may be too busy to hang with friends, but YOU HAVE TO! It is very very VERY important to keep doing the things you love, if only once a week. However, sometimes it may not be that easy because as grad students we don’t get full access to the gym, have classes at random times, have our internship, have to find a local gym, may not have a car.
For me, I make it a point to go out for drinks with my friends, or experience new events in St. Louis if only for a couple hours, or attend church. One other activity I do to keep my sanity is join the Wash U Club Water Polo team. Joining the many club teams offered at Wash U is a great way to do something fun, exercise, and take a break from any type of academic thinking. AKA-let your brain take a vacation.
I played water polo since I was 8 and played in college and I AM MISSING IT! It’s crazy how much one sport can be so present in you life. So when I came here to STL, I was wondering where am I going to play water polo in the midwest?!! And then I joined the club team. Once a week, I have a 2 hour practice from 8:30-10:30 to relax and play the sport I love. ON the weekends there is practice, and I usually go to one of those practices. Sometimes I am too tired to go, but then I think… I NEED TO GO! I NEED A BREAK! And I always feel great after
Point is, find a club to join, find a community team to play for, find a dance class, anything that you love to keep you SANE!
